Divisions of General Practice - What are they? :

Divisions of General Practice are self-managed independent entities that cover over 90% of the General Practitioners in Australia. Formed on a geographic basis, Divisions provide a focus for regional groupings of GPs to interact with their colleagues, local communities, state and regional health authorities, hospitals, local business, allied health professionals and local government. Divisions carry out previously untried activities that involve GPs in new or modified roles which aims to strengthen links between GPs and all the other key players in primary health care. There are 119 Divisions of General Practice around Australia, covering 22,000 GPs within the Division catchment area.
