About our Clinic :

The Medical Clinic Millicent is a purpose built facility incorporating 13 consulting rooms, 2 of which are specifically designed for parallel learning for Junior Doctors, a specialized treatment area including 2 electricheight adjustable beds and 3 observation bays, a dedicated nurse office and a dedicated chronic disease management consulting room. Facilities also include a dedicated staff training and development room, an additional room for conferences and meetings with Tele Health capabilities, NEC telecommunications system, three professional reception and waiting facilities in our Minor Surgery/ and east and west areas of the building for greater patients access and comfort. We use computerised systems with e-mail and internet access, Medical Director Software for our fully electronic Patient notes and Zedmed for Patient appointments.

There is an onsite pathology laboratory and access to the facilities of Benson Radiology both in Millicent and Mt Gambier. Healthscope have established a Specimen Collection Centre at the Clinic and a Pathology Collector is available 5 days a week for specimen collection from 8:00am - 5:00pm. Further orthopaedic and ophthalmic services are also available in Mt Gambier.

Our Generalist services cover a population of approximately 10,000 with additional services such as anaesthetics and obstetrics serving a wider catchment.

The GPs in the clinic service the Hospital by providing maternity services and anaesthetics for surgical, urological and orthopaedic lists as well as After Hours Emergency Services throughout the weekdays - weekends are covered with a Locum service organised by CHSA.

Support Services in the Area :

Specialists from Adelaide and Mount Gambier visit the Clinic and/or Hospital on regular basis. These include a General Physician, General Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon and an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist.

The Millicent hospital includes a 34 bed ward and 30 beds in the nursing home catering for acute medical and surgical care as well as obstetric patients. Those patients who cannot be managed in this facility are transferred to Mount Gambier or Adelaide. The local GP's manage some 95% of all obstetric patients in Millicent.

Opportunities for Professional Development :

The Clinic is an accredited training provider with GGT GPET (Greater Green Triangle GP Education and Training) and also SFGPTP (Sturt Fleurieu General Practice Training Program) providing opportunities for GPT1 GPT2 and GPT Registrars as well as GPs that are interested in training future GPs. We also host two PRCC flinders  3rd Year Medical Students for their entire 3rd year of medicine at our practice involving them in all aspects of our practice including hands on training opportunities which they would not experience back at University. We also host a selection of PGPPP interns and 2 week medical students throughout the year, gaining valuable experience with experienced GPs in a rural community setting.
